April

March came and went. Everyday I thought about how I needed to blog and everyday I got crazy busy. Here is all my news: I have some pieces being sold through Global Girlfriend. This is an amazing opportunity for me and the Fair Trade group I work with so if you get a chance please check out the website and purchase if possible. I also was given Westword's "Best of Denver 2007" for metal jewelry. Which is an honor and I was very flattered to have been picked. Oh and also I was accepted into the Philadelphia Buyer's Market for August. This is a big juried wholesale trade show and I was holding my breath until I found out.

Here is March's Stone:

Aquamarine. It's name comes from the sea because it sparkles like water. It can be light to medium blue and sometimes have a greenish hue. It is considered "the stone of courage". Legend has that it was the treasure of mermaids to keep sailors safe at sea. Aquamarine's hardness (mohs scale) is an eight.

April's Stone, and my birthstone, is diamond. The name came from the Greek word "Adamas", which means unconquerable. They are made from crystalized carbon and range in colors from colorless, pink, yellow red, brown, blue and black. Traditionally they are known as a symbol of love. Only 20 percent of diamonds are "gem" quality and used for jewelry, the other 80 percent gets lost in cutting. Diamonds are considered to be the "king of crystals" and enhance other stones. Diamonds are the earths hardest natural stone. Diamond's hardness (mohs scale) is a ten. Please read information on Conflict Diamonds as it has been a concern for years in the industry.
