Writing it down, Making it happen

A long time ago I read this book called Write It Down Make It Happen: Knowing What You Want And Getting It, by Henriette Anne Klauser. I started writing things down and was amazed at the small things that started happening for me. It really made me realize that my ideas could come to life with even just a little energy behind them.

So now I'm looking back at all those wonderful little writings to see what I wanted. Well, to start, I wrote about making my own designs and selling them for a living. I wrote about making designs to help people. And now it's all coming to fruition. Last year at a holiday mart, I went over to the booth across from mine to see what kind of goodies the woman there was selling. The booth belonged to Global Girlfriend, and the woman running it was the owner. Global Girlfriend is a beautiful idea. It is a unique fair trade boutique selling specialty hand-made gifts and goods made by women's non-profit programs, women's cooperatives worldwide and products that benefit women's human rights. One thing leads to another, and not only did I meet an incredible business woman, she introduced me to a fair trade group in Nepal that teaches orphans and women valuable trade skills so they can support themselves. And now I they produce some of my designs. In addition, I'm designing items for Global Girlfriend's catalog.

WB2 Morning News

Yesterday morning I had a whole new experience. Amazing things happen and I must have put the vibe out without realizing it, I have a customer (Leslie) who gave one of my pieces to a friend of hers that works at WB2 (Bev). Somehow they came up with the idea of having me on the morning show for a segment on mother's day gifts. It was live (which could make a newbie like me a nervous wreck) and about 3 minutes long. I was nervous but I think enough people told me I would do just fine that it turned out to be a good segement. Laurie, the gal who does PR for me, went with me to help me keep my focus. She also helped display the jewelry. Of course the night before my husband put his time in too, helping make the jewelry look great on the boards. He has a great eye.

When we got there, we met Gina the producer who took us over to get set up. While setting up Bev came over and I thanked her for the opportunity. It is unbelievable how fast 3 minutes can fly! The segement was done with Natalie Tysdal. She really did a great job making me comfortable and making it a good segement. She lead the questions so any fear I had just seemed to go right out the door. Kudos to all at WB2 and thank you for the opportunity. We will be posting the video soon.

2006, It's Heating Up!

It has been 3 weeks and counting since my last post. I have been really busy lately, and there's a lot to catch up on. Just a few of the new developments; I have finally hired an apprentice, I am participating in the Denver Polo Club 2006 Invitational and Dressage for The Cure, and I have hired a new representative.

I am very excited to have committed to having someone work with me. My new apprentice is a fiber artist, which lends itself very well to bead work. I am looking forward to seeing what this new relationship contributes to my studio and how fast this will open my time up for other parts of the business.

My husband and I went to the opening reception for the Denver Polo Club yesterday afternoon. I will be donating a couple of pieces to Dressage for The Cure, which is on May 13th. The money from this event goes an organization called Renee's Friends Fund. Renee's Friends Fund assists with normal living expenses as patients obtain the treatments and therapies necessary to fight breast cancer. We met Renee, and she is a delightful and strong person. I will be selling belts and jewelry at the Polo Invitational in July and the opening reception got me exctied to do the event. Jim Guttau (who showed us around and introduced us to Renee and Erica) is a friendly and kind person.

As for the new representative - well I am anxious to see what happens. I am excited, but so far I have dealt with too many reps that haven't worked out. It is an interesting balance and I am definitely learning to trust my intuition more, after all if you don't trust yourself who can you trust?
