Colfax Boutique and Writers

I went out with my husband to one of my his "beatnik" book readings, only to find my self in the cutest little shop.

Last time we went to a reading there was no where to sit, so this location was a great relief. I got to meet two of the three owners of Chielle and really enjoyed talking to them.

Everytime I step into a shop like Chielle I get inspired. By the way, the reading was great and I really enjoyed the selections from Shoun's book.

January's Stone- Garnet

The name comes from latin - granatum ( pomegranate ) because of the similar color to the fruit. Garnets come in a variety of colors from the most common red to orange and green. Garnets are said to give the wearer love and faithfulness.

Parts and Findings: Defined

I found myself on the phone discussing different parts on products with a customer the other day. I realized more people need to understand these basic jewelry terms. For starters here are some basic clasps, and earring posts and wires with pictures and descriptions.

Spring Ring clasp

The spring ring clasp has a metal spring inside so when you pull back to open it when released it springs back. These are good for necklaces and bracelets.

Lobster clasp

The lobster clasp is much like a spring ring clasp but bigger. It has a metal spring inside. It is used as an alternative sometimes to the Spring Ring for an easier grasp. These are also good for necklaces and bracelets.

Pearl clasp

The pearl clasp is used when stringing pearls on silk cord. The v looking end pushes in, clicking into the clasp to close and then must be squeezed to be pulled opened.

Ear wire or fish hook wire

This is a very simple ear hook. The wire is heated on the end to make a ball and then bent to form a fish hook like shape.

Post with ball

The post with ball is great for people who do not like the ear wires and sometimes requested if you have a pierced ear that has been pulled.

Kidney earwire

The kidney earwire has one end that slips into a loop to close. This helps in case you are worried about earrings falling out.

Lever back

The lever back has a spring in it to create another way to keep it close when worn.
